Summary
The story “Blind Willie” is set in 1983. The story opens at 6:15 a.m. As Bill Sherman is dressing in his suit and tie, his wife, Sharon asks him to pick up eggnog on his way home.
At 8:15 a.m., he is on the train. He avoids conversation and will switch cars if someone does try to strike up a conversation with him. He believes that no one needs to know he once held a crying girl while she was hit by a baseball bat. He also does not believe anyone needs to know he served in Vietnam.
At 8:40 a.m., at his office, he drops some change into the cup a black man is holding. He lies to a man who works down the hallway from him when he indicates that his wife, Carol, is fine and that his kids are getting excited...
