Summary
Chapter 18: Catherine enters the Hatter’s shop and sees walls lined with elaborate hats. As the Raven flies from Jest’s shoulder, she has a memory of the hooded figure she saw at the castle. There is a long table in the center of the shop surrounded by an assortment of animals who are guests at the tea party. Jest introduces Catherine to the Hatter, whose name is Hatta. Hatta asks Jest if she is truly a lady or if that only goes as “far as her satin shift” (146). Jest tells him she is a lady and reminds him that they are gentlemen.
