Ride On: Chapter 24
Jude walks the dogs while Georgia is in the bathroom and on his way back gets her laptop from the back of the Mustang. When he returns to the room he switches it on and Googles Anna’s obituary. The obituary is short and says nothing about her having committed suicide. He then types “Craddock McDermott dousing” into the search engine and clicks on a nine-year-old story from the Tampa Tribune titled “Dousing for the Dead.” In 1991 a pilot named Roy Hayes’ plane went down somewhere in the Everglades and three years after the disappearance his family hired Craddock McDermott to locate the body. Craddock had swung a silver pendulum over a map and announced that he knew where the body was, and that he would call on the spirit of Roy Hayes himself to lead him to...
