Part 3, End (Saul, Virginia, ) Summary
Saul appears to have modified his cyanute bacteria to attack the comet's life-forms, against incredible odds and with geat luck. He has tested them on Marguerite von Zoon, but one of Marguerite's own patients is Lani, who has been infected with a disease that has proven immune to the new cyanutes. He gives a new batch of the cyanutes to Keoki Anuenue for testing on volunteers. Dr. Akio Matsudo calls him into his office. Matsudo, like von Zoon, is much healthier from the new cyanutes. Matsudo tries to convince Saul that he should go into the slots. Saul asks for the more months, but instead bargains out only another eight weeks.
Virginia has had the biocomputer JonVon shut down all mechs until Carl and Ould-Harrad agree to slot her alongside Saul. Carl reluctantly agrees, keeping her unslotted...
