Summary
In Chapter 28, Beyah finds a hard-bound spiral notebook in Samson’s backpack. At first, she cannot make sense of the notations in it, but realizes they are the dates Samson stayed in different houses and the repairs he made to the houses in exchange for staying there.
Beyah is excited as she shows her family the notebook. She believes it is evidence that will help Samson because it proves he was trying to do the right thing. Beyah’s father, however, sees it as a detailed list of all the things Samson has done wrong. He believes it will hurt him rather than help him.
Brian tells Beyah she is too young to allow her life to be consumed by a man who has messed his life up so badly. Alana agrees and tells Beyah that she needs to move forward. Beyah realizes...
