Summary
In Chapter 23, Beyah wakes to Samson telling her that he is sorry. When she opens her eyes, a police officer has Samson’s hands handcuffed behind his back. Another officer tells Beyah to get dressed. She will not tell Beyah what is happening, only asks her to go downstairs. Beyah assures the officer they did not do anything wrong.
There is a family of a mother, father, and child in the living room downstairs. The man asks Beyah how they got into the house. Beyah argues the house belongs to Samson. Beyah’s father arrives. An officer tells him that Samson is being arrested for breaking and entering. He did not have permission to stay in the house. Beyah remembers Samson setting the alarm and thinks that a person cannot break into a house that he has the alarm code for.
