Summary

In Chapter 5, Beyah received her first kiss when one of her mother’s boyfriends accosted her when she was 12. He slapped her when she hit him over the head with a plate of scrambled eggs. After that, eggs always made Beyah sick to her stomach.

When Beyah joins the others for dinner, she is glad that neither Marcos nor Samson mentions their earlier meeting. Sara announces that Beyah needs some things from Wal-Mart and asks if they can go. Brian hands her several one hundred dollar bills and tells her to buy Beyah a cell phone as well. Sara says that Marcos is driving. They insist that Samson comes along.
