Summary

In a coffee shop, Terese suddenly remembers a man in the shower. She cannot catch her breath and doubles over in pain. She writes about the symbolism of thunder which is contrary, intuitive, and "can awaken one's soul" (113). She remembers her father's naked body, and how it smelled. She remembers showering with him and her fear of breathing. She has new knowledge, a new memory, and feels ashamed. She has suddenly remembered her father asking her to shower with him. She writes that this is "Thunder Being's game, or a gift of memory" and that it is "more than simple traumatic stress" (115). Terese talks to Casey, who has now accepted her and the idea that she "might never be okay" (115). Terese, now thirty-two, feels like a victim of something and is afraid to remember what happened clearly.
