Reno, Nevada
Reno, Nevada is the primary geographical setting for the novel. The Daughters of America Cup is held here "because of its central location" as it is found "in the middle of the American heartland" (15). All of the primary characters travel to Reno to participate in the tournament. The setting enhances the dreamlike qualities of the characters' experiences throughout the novel. None of the characters are from Reno. They are therefore able to escape or temporarily retreat from their normal lives while here.
Bob's Boxing Palace
Bob's Boxing Palace is the boxing gym in Reno, Nevada where the Daughters of America competition is held. The gym owner Bob's brother is "the head of the Women's Youth Boxing Association" which has inspired Bob's ability to host the championship (15).
