Summary

In “Rachel Doricko vs. Kate Heffer,” Rachel Doricko and Kate Heffer face off after Artemis and Andi. Rachel studies Kate and tries to make her afraid. She often does strange things to make others uncomfortable, like wear “a Daniel Boone–style raccoon hat” (50). Kate is the type who is easily bothered by the hat.

Rachel and Kate study each other’s bodies. Rachel has many siblings and always struggles to prove herself. Kate is an only child, eager to please her parents, and detail-oriented. She conforms to what others want and expect of her because she wants to be liked. She counts in her head throughout the match to focus, while Rachel lists images to remember each part of the match.
