Summary

The first-person narrator, whose name is eventually revealed to be Kim, describes how “this Todd was going to be different because he did not insist that he was okay with his condition” (160). Kim’s narration reveals that he is missing his legs, but does not try to pretend that he did not.

Kim’s narration then shifts focus, describing how she met “the first Todd”, whose real name was Brian (160). She describes how their relationship began while they were both waiting for car repairs at a mechanics, and comments on how she does not really know what to call the men she gets involved with, men who were either missing their legs or who had legs that did not work.
