Chapters 11 and 12 Summary
Rooster Jim picks Hattie up for the dance, and as they enter, they are immediately met by Leafie. Hattie helps to set up food and asks if the Martins are coming but Leafie warns her that Traft is Trouble. Still, when he arrives with a group of his cowboy friends, she is unable to resist his request for a dance. It is finished way too soon for Hattie and they are all called to dinner, after which Mr. Saboe announces that it is time to purchase the Liberty Bonds. To reach Montana's quota of three million dollars, he tells them, every man, woman and child in the state would have to contribute just thirty dollars — a goal not unattainable.
