Part 2, Growth, Summer 1993, Chapter 32, Nicholas Summary

Max has his first cold and Nicholas is miserable watching his son struggle with the stuffy nose. Nicholas has spent the entire day carrying the baby around, attempting to keep him comfortable. Now it is late, and Nicholas is sitting on the couch watching the evening news with Max in his arms. The doorbell rings just as Max has fallen asleep. Nicholas is angry because the baby is awake again and Nicholas has surgery in the morning. Nicholas goes to the door, muttering under his breath how it had better be an emergency. When he opens it, Paige is standing there.

At first, Nicholas is glad to see her, needing to reach out and touch her. However when Paige begins to speak, the old anger creeps back. Nicholas tells her she is not welcome back...
