Part 2, Growth, Summer 1993, Chapter 31, Paige Summary
After May breaks her ankle, Donegal goes down with colic. Although May does not think there is a connection, Paige is certain of it. Paige wants to handle the problem for her mother, but May insists on being in the middle of the crisis. The vet comes and says Donegal will be fine, but in the middle of the night Paige goes to check the horses and finds her mother asleep in Donegal's stall.
As Donegal gets better, Paige is allowed to ride him. May stands out by the fence to watch, worried about both her horse and her child. Paige rides the horse with the grace of a born horsewoman, even jumping a stream in order to impress her mother. May is impressed, clapping loud enough that Paige and Donegal can hear her across...
