Part 2, Growth, Summer 1993, Chapter 30, Nicholas Summary

At his home, Robert Prescott is on his hands and knees cleaning up vomit Max has left on the carpet. Robert picks up Max when he is done cleaning and dances the baby around the room to the tunes of a Sesame Street tape. When Robert hears keys in the front door, he quickly turns off the tape and sits on the couch, pretending to be going over patient charts. Astrid walks into the room and asks if everything is alright. Robert notices too late that the chart he has been reading is upside down.

Nicholas' hands shake as he begins an operation on his mentor, Alistair Forgerty. Alistair requires a bypass and has requested that Nicholas perform it. Alistair also asks Nicholas to take over his patients, since he will have to take a...
