Part 2, Growth, Summer 1993, Chapter 28, Nicholas Summary

Nicholas and Paige were already engaged when they went out on their fourth date. Nicholas had planned it to the last detail--dinner at a fancy restaurant, drinks in the bar, and necking in the car. Paige is dressed to the nines that night, borrowing a dress from Doris and buying a pair of expensive shoes. The date did not go as planned, however. Paige was out of her comfort zone. The dinner took so much energy for her in trying to remember etiquette, that she was exhausted by the end of the night, not to mention the allergic reaction she had to some mushrooms that caused her lip to swell. Afterward, Nicholas realized just how different their worlds were. Nicholas also wondered if they could make a marriage work when they were so different. However...
