Nicholas takes Max to work with him the next morning, assuming there is an employee day care where he can leave him. However, Nicholas learns that the employee day care is not on the Mass General campus but miles away and does not open until long after Nicholas is due in surgery. Nicholas makes a deal with a nurse in orthopedics to take care of the baby while he is in surgery.

Max kept Nicholas up half the night; therefore, he is so exhausted that he misses the door to the operating suite, already more than twenty minutes later for the procedure.
