Part 2, Growth, Summer 1993, Chapter 19, Paige Summary

Paige stops at Ruby's House of Fate in Pennsylvania, the home of a fortune-teller. Ruby tells Paige that her future is in her past. Paige thinks this means she is going to Chicago. Ruby agrees, telling her she will find her mother and that bad blood skips a generation. Finally, Ruby tells Paige that she needs to call Nicholas.

Nicholas is not happy to hear from Paige when he learns she is in Pennsylvania and not returning home that night. Paige assures him she will return, just not any time soon. Nicholas becomes angry and tells her not to bother to return home.

Paige arrives in Chicago early the next morning. Knowing her father will not be home until that evening, Paige stops at the art store where she once bought all her supplies and...
