Part 1, Conception 1985-1993, Chapter 12, Nicholas Summary

Nicholas arrives at Lamaze class late, the only class he has managed to attend for Paige's entire pregnancy. Nicholas joins Paige on the floor, remembering how he had come home the night before and found her in tears for no reason. The class instructor calls Nicholas to the front of the class and has him put on a sympathy belly. Nicholas wears it well at first, making a joke out of it for the entertainment of the other fathers, but struggles when the instructor has him bend down to pick up a pen. Nicholas falls, eliciting laughter from everyone in the room. Paige comes to his side and helps him out of the sympathy belly, then excusing them from the class. At the car, Paige explains that she did not like seeing him that way...
