Part 1, Conception 1985-1993, Chapter 7, Paige Summary

Paige is dressed for a fund-raising dinner and is waiting for Nicholas to come home. Paige and Nicholas buy a house which has a mortgage too large for their budget because Nicholas feels it is important to have the house in order to keep up appearances at the hospital. Paige hates the house because all the carpets and walls are white or beige, a drab house which drains her creativity.

Paige hates these dinners because she feels she does not fit in with the other wives. Paige drags her feet getting ready. On the way to the dinner, they pass a group of trick-or-treaters, since it is Halloween, and a man comes to the car window and frightens Paige.
