Moral Obligation
Abbey is faced with the question of whether to ignore what she believes to be happening in order to further her career or to risk it all in order to do what she believes is right. In the end, Abbey chooses right, though she questions several times whether it's worth it. Abbey comes to realize that there is a flaw in the system that provides a waiting list for transplant organs. This system is meant to categorize people by need only without regard to social or economic status but, as Abbey learns, money can bypass even the best intentions. When she suspects that Victor Voss has "purchased" the top spot on the list for his ailing wife and later purchases a heart for her, Abbey believes she has to speak up.
