Harry Potter is very famous in the wizarding world. He is known as "the boy who lived." Harry got this name because he and his parents were attacked by Lord Voldemort when he was just an infant. Harry's mother died protecting Harry, and when Voldemort tried to kill Harry, the curse rebounded on Voldemort instead. Harry still has a lightening-shaped scar on his forehead from the incident. Harry is just turning seventeen years old at the beginning of this book. He has black hair and glasses.
After his parents' deaths, Harry went to stay with his mother's sister and her husband and son. They do not like Harry, despise wizards and witches, and make no effort to hide their distaste.
