Summary
It is June 2016, in New York, and Jay's wife Miranda (a.k.a Mimi) has just given birth to their daughter Eliot. In the hospital room, while Mimi sleeps, Jay considers fleeing, and thinks of his mother. He feels awkward and vaguely disgusted holding his baby.
In Chapter 2, it is September 2016 and Jay, Mimi, and Eliot are in Jay's father's Connecticut home. His father has recently died in a car accident while on his way to visit his new granddaughter. It is mentioned that Jay and Mimi run an art gallery together back in New York. Jay is unraveling mentally from the strain of his father's death and his baby's constant crying.
