Riverside Drive
Riverside Drive is a neighborhood in Harlem. Whenever Carney is frustrated or overwhelmed by his life, he visits Riverside Drive. Walking through the neighborhood comforts Carney, and reminds him of everything he wants and might have.
After Carney's furniture business improves, Carney moves his family into a Riverside Drive apartment. For a time, the relocation feels like triumph. However, Carney soon realizes that even this is not enough.
Carney's Furniture Shop
Carney's used furniture shop is also located in Harlem. At the start of the novel, he does everything in his power to keep the business alive without resorting to criminal activity. However, he soon starts using the shop as a front. Criminals bring him stolen items, which Carney moves on their behalf. In this way, the business begins to do better, and Carney feels that he has finally proved himself.
