Summary
In Chapter 44, the narrative shifts ahead another few months. Hark’s organization, the Institute for Mental Archery, has been acquired by Dersh and Delgado, and Fraz is now a paid employee of the organization. In an article for the organization’s website, Fraz writes about how modern technology and politics are often a detriment to personal fulfillment. Meg, now Fraz’s supervisor, rejects the article for publication. Dersh and Delgado run the Institute with a focus on profit, and they hope to have the Institute legally recognized as a religion to gain tax-exempt status for it. Kate has left the Institute in the wake of Hark’s death, and she wonders if Boyd Barron was actually sent by Dersh and Delgado to kill Hark. In Chapter 45, Tovah goes to a writers’ conference.
