Summary

When Happy, Wufu, and Lively arrive at the depot, they are taken to an apartment complex where they will live. The building is derelict and people come from off the street to use the public bathrooms there. Happy, Wufu, and Lively begin working enthusiastically, digging several yards a day. As the days go by, the work becomes more grueling and once they hit a rock, work needs to cease for the rest of the day until it is drilled. Happy realizes that they are not making as much money daily as he thought they would be and the working conditions are dismal. They are fed the same pulled noodles every day and they tire of them.
