White Feather

The white feather is a symbol of magic. Ten-year-old Gwendy buys this feather from an older cousin who tells her it is a magic feather. He claims that it once belonged to an Indian medicine man. The older cousin probably just saw a chance to dupe a gullible younger girl and earn some easy money. Gwendy’s parents find this feather years later and give it to Gwendy as one of her Christmas presents. Gwendy, in turn, gives the feather to her mother for good luck while she is in the hospital having tests to determine if her cancer has returned. The feather is lost again when Mrs. Peterson is in the hospital. Gwendy assures her mother the feather will turn up again if it is intended to do so. It is miraculous, however, that the feather shows up lying on Gwendy’s carry-on luggage...
