Summary
In Chapter 2: "Moose Attacks," Paulsen references his book Hatchet when Brian is attacked by a moose.
Paulsen spent a lot of time in his life in the wilderness, including northern Minnesota, Alaska, and Canada, as he has been hunting since the age of 12. Paulsen’s first gun was a Remington single-shot bolt action .22 rifle. It meant aiming carefully, as reloading was lengthy. As Paulsen’s family was poor, Paulsen’s hunting for food was important. Game wardens often looked the other way when poor families hunted out of season.
While out hunting one day, Paulsen was charged by a moose he did not see coming. Fortunately, the moose ran past him. Paulsen knew the moose had gone crazy, as the moose went on to tear a nearby tree to shreds. Paulsen later learned a waterborne parasite can infect moose and make them go crazy...
