Summary
Prior to page 1, there is a dedication page with an image of a street with a street lamp lighting up a van, with the dedication, “For anyone who feels afraid.” The page before page 1 is a red alarm clock that reads 2:36 a.m. Page 1 depicts a white girl with brown hair sleeping, then waking up sweating, then quietly walking down a ladder on a bunkbed. The girl walks into her mother’s room and tells her Mom that her stomach feels funny. Her mother says she also threw up and they may have gotten her sister’s stomach flu. Her mother takes her to the bathroom and tells her to “try to do it. You’ll feel better” (3). The girl’s face and eyes turn green, and on the next page the reader sees Raina “yak!” and “barf” as written in big green...
