Summary
In Chapter Nine, Pearl went to Pastor Rex’s Protestant church with April May. Margot did not attend because she had been raised Catholic. Eli came walking in with two shotguns slung over his shoulder. He sat down and Pastor Rex told the congregation that his friend Eli had lost his wife and children, and that he was going through a tough time. Eli got up and spoke in a sweet voice about his lost family and the whole congregation bought into his story.
In Chapter Ten, Margot and Pearl went to the community bathroom. Pearl went in first to wash her face, and when she came out her mother was sitting on the swing and Eli was pushing her.
