Summary
Upon Cinta’s return to Venice, she and Deen debate climate change and the differentiation of “natural” and “scientific” as it concerns the migration of spiders into warming climates. They also discuss the history of depression and its close relation to the idea of possession.
That afternoon, Cinta and Deen take a walk through the city, following routes that the Gun Merchant may have taken. Along the way, they come across an exhibit meant to replicate a monster living beneath Venice. Cinta decides to take Deen to a hidden fishing spot that would be a more likely home to the tentacled giant.
Along the way to the pier, Cinta tells Deen a story about her uncle having a run-in with the monster while he was fishing one night. They make it to the pier and find no sign of any monster. Instead, Cinta...
