Summary

Chapters 21 and 22

Will comes with two more Reader’s Digest books and a National Geographic magazine. By the next day, he has read them cover to cover and is eager for more. He asks a guard if he can swap with someone else, and she tells him she’ll see what she can do, but her sarcasm is lost on Khalid. Instead, it becomes something else he waits for during the day other than the barber’s head shaving which should have come a week ago. Breakfast arrives but Khalid is worked up about the prospect of barbers and books. Lunch comes and goes before his number is called. He gets in the line-up for the barber getting a glimpse of Ali in line as well. Dinner comes but still no books. The air conditioner runs without ceasing, freezing Khalid’s freshly shaved...
