Summary

Chapters 17 and 18

Days turn into weeks, which turn into months. The air conditioner quits during the heat of the day, and Khalid`s head feels like it is going to explode. He sits up to grab his bottled water. He can hardly put the lid back on after having a sip. The band around his head tightens, and he bangs it against the wall. The pain banishes the pictures in his mind. As the trolley comes down the hall, Khalid replays the pictures of Tariq in his mind, completely unaware that he is biting his own arm until the food arrives and he looks down to see the teeth marks in his arm. He passes time by creating figures out of spots on the wall and counting footsteps in the hall. A guard calls out his number, and he is shackled and taken...
