Owen

Owen is the first person narrator and the main character of the novel. In the narrative present, Owen has just moved back to his home state of Kentucky after his life fell apart in Colorado. He lost his job and was unable to pay rent, was using drugs and living out of his car. He decided to move back to Kentucky and in with his grandfather and uncle because he needed help starting over. Although he made this decision voluntarily, Owen is constantly at odds with his surroundings. He lives with family, but feels like an outsider and an intruder when he is home. He is familiar with the town and surrounding area, but feels disdain for the people, their politics, beliefs, and culture. Although he recognizes his angst regarding Kentucky, Owen is unsure how to escape his life here.
