Summary
With Richard, Brandon moves uneasily down the stairwell. He feels guilty over encouraging the woman to run through the sheet of fire. Richard reassures him, at least she survived the fire. “Brandon, if she’d stayed in that elevator, she’d be dead now” (138). The two head to Richard’s offices on the 90th floor. In the offices, they hear a morning radio DJ describing how a plane, perhaps being flown by someone who suffered some kind of medical crisis, had flown into the North Tower. Brandon uses an office phone to call his father. His father, calm and quiet, reassures Brandon everyone above the 102nd floor is waiting for helicopter rescue.
