Summary

Chapter 2 is titled “Saddest Chapter Ever Written.” The title page shows Dog Man and the Chief hugging, with tears arcing from the Chief's face while other cops look on, holding their hats in their hands. That night, the Chief and Dog Man go to the Mayor's house. The Mayor comes to the door wearing a nightshirt and pointed cap, and holding a stuffed animal. The Chief pleads for Dog Man but the Mayor takes Dog Man's badges away and says Dog Man is fired. He then orders them to leave and tells his stuffed animal, Mr. Snookums, that he is a “powerful person” and the “best Mayor in town” (35).
