Summary

On the day of M’s accident, he "left work early" and met Caroline at the salon where she was getting her hair done (5). Afterwards, they went to a café. M took her picture with her new hair. They left shortly thereafter "to go home and screw" (5). After they finished, Caroline took a picture of herself "from the neck up," but naked, and sent it to her sister (5). M emerged from the bathroom. The last time she saw him was "on the landing" (5). Caroline dressed, and collected the purse M had given her.

On her way home "shortly after midnight," Caroline called M (5). He was at a party, but "sounded cheerful and sober" (5). She later saw his "blood alcohol level" in his file after the accident (5). That hardly seems to matter now. She cannot remember if they said they "loved each other" (5).
