Summary
Bill Bursum, the owner of the store that Lionel works at, shows a coworker his new display: a map of the United States and Canada made entirely out of television screens. Bill is proud of his display. The narrator expresses Bill’s inner thoughts, in which Bill thinks that abstract concepts of power and control are “outside the range of the Indian imagination” (141).
Meanwhile, Latisha continues to be questioned by a group of tourists about her café. They ask her if she is married and she says no, but says she is not exactly single, either. Latisha finds connection with one of the tourists, an old woman. In this conversation, Latisha reveals that she was married for nine years and had three children with her ex-husband.
