Summary
Dov’s father, Aaron, began to worry when dawn broke but his son still hadn’t returned from his nighttime walk. Although they’d been living in the house together for ten days, Dov had said very little to his father. The narrator describes the way the two men had organized their days, including Dov’s nighttime walks. He talks to himself telling Dov that he still had time in his life but the narrator didn’t have much time left. He felt Dov had things he wanted to tell him before he died. He thought about how the Jews had never discussed what happened after death. As the narrator considered his own death he thought of a time when Dov would not eat.
