Ismae Rienne

Ismae Rienne is the heroine of the novel. She is the daughter of Death, a lineage that is proved by the scar on her back caused by a poison intended to abort her while still in her mother's womb. Because of the hate that has been shown to her all of her life, Ismae believes that she will fit in well at the abbey of St. Mortain. She believes that she will be able to kill anyone that she is asked to kill until she gets to know and learns to love those with whom she is working.
