Summary
In the introduction to this part of the novel, Austin gives some background information on Saint Kazimierz. He angered his father when he was 13 by not wanting to go to war against the Hungarians because he thought the war was unjust. He also wore a hair shirt to help him deal with sexual temptation.
In the section “We, the New Humans” Austin told Shann what had happened the night they’d gone to Ealing Mall to get their shoes and skateboards from the roof. He told her about watching Hungry Jack hatch. After Austin told Shann what they knew, the boys took Shann home. As Austin kissed her outside her door, Shann told Austin she thought Robby loved him. Austin asked if something was wrong with that and Shann backed away...
