Vicksburg

The siege and capture of Vicksburg, MS was Grant’s first major military victory. It made him nationally famous and accelerated his rise to leadership of the entire war effort.

Overland Campaign

The Overland Campaign was Grant’s effort to capture the Confederate capital at Richmond, VA and eventually destroy Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. Chernow hails it as a logistical and strategic masterpiece, that skillfully deployed the North’s advantages.

Cold Harbor
