Chaps. 25-27 Summary

Chap. 25. Katsa, Po and Bitterblue leave the battle site on two of the dead soldiers' horses. After a few hours, they find a place to hide and plan that Po will go off to try to surprise and kill King Leck. Bitterblue tells the story of what happened to her and her mother Ashen. King Leck had wanted to torture Bitterblue, but he wanted her to be fooled by his Grace powers and surrender to him voluntarily. When Leck maims Ashen's serving girl, Ashen decides that she and Bitterblue must flee. When they saw how Leck had hurt people, his Grace did not deceive them. Ashen and Bitterblue ran off towards the mountains but were spotted by King Leck and his soldiers. Ashen hurt her leg and lagged behind, so King Leck shot her, while Bitterblue escaped.
