Summary
After several hours of conversation with Gabriella and Chloe, Hadley packs a bag and prepares the baby. In the car, Hadley observes Gabriella and Chloe act affectionately "in a way she had never seen women be affectionate" (12). She feels jealous of their intimacy. Looking at Gemma, she wonders where she came from, who she might become.
After hours of driving, the women arrive in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Gabriella and Chloe retreat to their hotel room. Hadley takes Gemma for a walk. She tells Gemma about everything she sees (12).
