Summary
After many years, Mr. Krimberg died, Vlashkin retired, some of the actors moved to Broadway, and the theater company closed down. When Vlashkin retired, there was a “dinner of honor” (19), where Rose believed she would say farewell to Vlashkin for the last time. However, some time later, Vlashkin visited Rose and told her that his wife had left him because of his adultery years ago. Rose considered this unfair because the adultery had occurred so long ago.
After discussing some details about how Vlashkin and his wife became separated, Vlashkin invited Rose to watch a play and have dinner together. Vlashkin then stated that after his difficult separation with his wife, he did not intend on being married again. Rose countered, stating that he could not parade her around town on dates without marrying her.
The story then catches up to present day...
