Aziraphale
Aziraphale is an angel. From the beginning of time, he has been trying to do good by humans. This interference of his becomes an ongoing theme throughout the story. To help the couple in Eden, Aziraphale gives them his flaming sword. It is his desire to help humans and to do good that makes him who he is. His sole purpose is to thwart evil-provided that his interference does not interfere with the Great Plan. He is friends with Crowley, who is a servant of the devil; not because he planned to be, but rather because they spent so much time together, they ended up developing a good relationship. They compromised on their assignments, arranging it so if Aziraphale did good in one place, Crowley would do evil in another. This is so it would look as though they were both accomplishing their work to their masters.
