Summary
"The Father" -- Duncan Arlington, a charismatic businessman, talked Gildiner into seeing him for marriage counseling even though that was a form of counseling she did not do. Duncan arrived for counseling with his girlfriend, Karen, even though Gildiner asked him to come alone.
Karen admitted that she would not allow Madeline, Duncan’s daughter, in Madeline’s childhood home, the house where Karen lived with Duncan. She additionally said she broke all of the antiques Madeline had stored there, pieces left to Madeline by her mother and grandmother. Duncan said the antiques were worth millions of dollars. Karen insisted he choose between her and Madeline.
Six years later, after Gildiner had quit her private practice, Duncan contacted her again. He wanted her to take Madeline as a patient. Gildiner tried to refer him to another counselor, but Duncan charmed...
