Summary
"Behind the Furnace" -- Gildiner was amazed that Alana displayed many sign of abuse; yet, no one ever reached out to Gildiner or Alana's father. One day Gildiner talked to an official about social services in Prince Rupert and about Alana slipping through the cracks. That official told Gildiner that much of the area was poor. Many were Indigenous. He was not surprised that Alana had slipped through the cracks. First, Alana was White. She had one parent and attended school regularly. Additionally, she lived in a home with the parent.
