Summary

In Chapter 7, Augustine wakes to find that Iris is not in the observatory. In a panic, he goes outside and finds her in the freezing cold without a coat on. She points out some musk oxen and he wraps her in his own coat and brings her back inside. He worries for her and her future and continues to try to find a signal on the radio. He consults an atlas in the observatory and finds the entry for Lake Hazen, fifty miles away. He recalls the other scientists taking fishing trips to this outpost, and decides he and Iris should go there, as there is a weather station with superior radio technology onsite.

As Chapter 8 begins, the astronauts are fighting over who is responsible for the loss of the communications satellite. Harper calms the crew and they decide to build a new...
