Point of View
The point of view of the novel is slightly complex and an essential part of the novel’s narrative. The majority of the book is told by a third-person narrator with a close focus on the protagonist and lead detective on the case, Pip. However, many chapters begin or end with documents that Pip has access to in one way or another, such as case note files and transcripts from interviews. The interviews switch the point of view to a first-person-present for the speakers, and the case files also switch the point of view and allow Pip to speak in first person present as she compiles her thoughts on the case up until that point.
